Police Officer Marcus has been called to the mansion owned by famed author Arthur Whitney to solve the case of the missing ice cream. And, as long as he is in attendance, he can also investigate the murder of Mr. Whitney on the occasion of his surprise birthday party.
All the suspects are gathered waiting to yell “surprise” when the guest of honor is shot in the head. How unsportsmanlike!
West Hartford’s Playhouse on Park is extending yu an invite until Sunday, February 3 to join Officer Marcus as he observes what “Protocal Says,” by looking alert, being bold, following clues, being smart and making the crime his primary concern. Marcus, with his eye on making Detective, needs all the help he can get.
This clever musical comedy “Murder for Two, with book and music by Joe Kinosian and book and lyrics by Kellen Blair, features only two characters, John Grieco as Marcus and Trevor Dorner as ALL the suspects. They sing and dance and play the piano as the murder mystery goes rolling along. Who had it in for Arthur?
Better yet, who didn’t get along with the prolific writer.
There was little love lost with his wife Dahlia who felt ignored, the prima ballerina whose tutu ended up in interesting places, the elderly neighbors who couldn’t get along with each other, Arthur’s niece who was working on a degree in criminology and Dr. Griff who was privy as a psychiatrist to the secrets of too many guests.
When Marcus and Griff serenade on a song “A Friend Like You,” can a confession be close at hand? Director Kyle Metzger keeps the pace hopping as Marcus uses the process of elimination to solve the case. The lighting designed by Rider Q. Stanton adds atmosphere to the proceedings.
For tickets ($25-40), call Playhouse on Park, 244 Park Road, West Hartford at 860-523-5900, ext. 10 or online at www.PlayhouseOnPark.org. Performances are Wednesday and Thursday at 7:3-p.m., Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., matinees Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Come help Officer Marcus solve the double mysteries, which keep expanding, and see if he can earn the grade of Detective in the process.
