MELISSA ETHERIDGE IN CONCERT
A trio of venues, Infinity Hall Hartford and Infinity Music Hall in Norfolk and the Warner Theatre in Torrington, have assembled a sparkling summer season of concerts. Thanks to Connecticut Public Television (CPTV), you can enjoy these creative and energizing musical events by simply turning on your television set, every Friday night at 10 p.m. until August 26. Check your listings for the channel in your neighborhood.
For a full 60 minutes, you can stream your favorite entertainers and be privy to a personal interview at the same time. Rhiannon Giddens set the tempo on July 8 with banjo and fiddle vibrating in hootenanny style. Next up, on July 15, Galactic (episode 502) will bring hot and steamy New Orleans southern soul to the party as its brass band bangs out rock, funk and blues. Tunes like “Sugar Doosie” and “Long Live the Borgne” and {Paul Simon’s “Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover,” with guest Ryan Montbleau, will set the bar high as it sizzes with sound. Erica Falls will be guest vocalist.
On July 22, tune in for a bit of the British as Joss Stone (episode 503) brings her fancy and free spirit to her fleet of fans. This award-winning Grammy star, whose resume includes singer, songwriter and actress, will flash like a meteor with such hits as “Fell in Love with a Boy,” “Super Duper Love (Are You Diggin’ on Me) and “Right to Be Wrong.”
Seven is the magic number that salutes the rock and soul forces of Sister Sparrow and The Dirty Birds. Led by Arleigh Kincheloe, singer and songwriter, this spirited soul specialty group will groove with such numbers as “Sugar,” “Catch Me If You Can” and “Prison Cells” by Paul Simon. Watch for this pop-infused group on July 29 (episode 504).
A collective of bright, up and coming stars will shine on August 5 with Great Performances Volume 1 (episode 505), from Infinity Hall Live. In a celebration of five seasons, the show will feature Los Lonely Boys, Tori Adams, Rubblebucket, Deer Tick, Tedeschi Truck Band, Joss Stone, Galactic, Dawes and Ani DiFranco.
Ani DiFranco will applaud her own night in the spotlight on August 12 (episode 506) when she takes center stage. With her label “Righteous Babe” now over quarter of a century old, this legend of folk and rock will give her all on vocals and guitar with such favorites as “Shameless,” “Both Hands,” “32 Flavors,” “Which Side Are You On” and “Crime for Crime.”
August 19 (episode 507) will be another chance to catch a stream of pop stars as Infinity Hall Live launches such luminaries as Joan Osborne, Wilson Phillips, Tommy Emmanuel, the Bacon Brothers, Tedeschi Trucks Band and Jackie Greene as they riff and rumble on a plethora of pop tunes.
Grammy winner Melissa Etheridge (episode 508) will conclude this sensational series with a star packed solo performance on August 26. Be prepared for such iconic numbers as “Come to My Window,” “I Want to Come Over” and “I’m the Only One” as well as album selections. Intimate interviews will be part and parcel of the evening’s punch and pleasure.
