HIGH SCHOOL MUSICALS FLY HIGH

                                         THE SHAPIRO SISTERS

Forget the Tony Awards!  We have our own glittering stars right here in Connecticut and last night, June 2, they came out, in gowns and tuxedos, for the 6th Annual High School Musical Theater Awards at the Palace Theater in Waterbury. Begun six short years ago by Brett A. Bernardini of the Spirit of Broadway Theater in Norwich, this event has grown in status as it honors the wonderfully talented boys and girls and their teachers, administrators and parents who work so hard to make musical theater a vibrant and vital part of the high school curriculum.

High Schools from across the state, twenty in all, gathered  to honor their own as production numbers from the best are presented to the thousands in attendance.
This year's emcees were Broadway stars in their own right, Abigail and Milly Shapiro, all of 13 and 11, who have been cast in "Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas" as Cindy Lou Who and "Matilda" as Matilda. They introduced the presenters, the musical numbers and performed powerhouse songs themselves. Look for them as they premiere as "The Shapiro Sisters: Live Out Loud" at 54 Below, Broadway's Supper Club, 254 West 54th Street, in New York City.
